Concerns

Real people, real concerns. Here is what I am hearing from towns and villages across Gwynedd Maldwyn.

What You're Telling Me

Chirk - Potential Unofficial Scrapyard

Residents raised serious concerns that a site in Chirk may be operating as an unofficial scrapyard, posing environmental, safety and community impacts. Despite involvement from multiple agencies, authorities have concluded no enforcement action will be taken unless residents themselves provide further evidence. If elected, I will: push for clear accountability when multiple agencies are involved, challenge decisions where investigations are closed without proper scrutiny, and ensure communities are not left to gather evidence themselves but receive transparent, proactive action from the authorities meant to protect them.

Chirk - Kronospan Access Road

Residents were informed in April 2024 that plans for the Kronospan North Access Road were recommended for approval, yet since then there has been little clear communication with local residents about whether the development will proceed, how it will directly affect nearby communities, or what measures will be put in place to minimise traffic disruption and day-to-day impact on residents. If elected, I will: push for transparent communication between developers, councils and residents, ensure communities are properly informed before major developments move forward, and advocate for clear traffic management and mitigation plans that protect local people rather than leaving them uncertain about decisions affecting their area.

Gwynedd Maldwyn - Evidence-Based Healthcare & Single Sex Spaces

Concerns about the use of puberty blockers for children, and the protection of biological sex and single-sex spaces. If elected, I will: Oppose medical interventions for children in relation to gender, prioritise evidence-based mental health support, and defend the protection of single-sex spaces.

Ceiriog Valley - Hunting & Shooting

Concerns about fox hunting and game shooting causing harm to wildlife, disruption to communities, and intimidation of residents going about daily life. If elected, I will: Support stronger enforcement and regulation to ensure countryside practices reflect modern standards, protect animal welfare, and respect local communities.

Ceiriog Valley - Tourism & National Park

Rising tourism pressures on local communities, with visitor numbers increasing regardless of National Park status and placing strain on infrastructure, environment, and services. If elected, I will: Recognise that visitor numbers are rising regardless, and push for fair contributions and strong local management, ensuring any National Park is designed with communities and not imposed on them.

Gwynedd Maldwyn - Tourism

Tourism is vital to our local economy, supporting thousands of jobs and businesses across Gwynedd Maldwyn. However, it also places real strain on roads, parking, public services, and the environment, particularly in peak seasons. If elected, I will: ensure any tourism levy is fair, evidence-based, and transparently managed, with all funds clearly reinvested into improving local infrastructure, protecting the environment, and supporting communities, while keeping Gwynedd Maldwyn an attractive place to visit.
